When you need someone to come through in the clutch, you call Mr. October. Baseball legend Reggie Jackson earned that nickname for his tremendous success as a clutch hitter. Reggie Jackson played for four teams throughout his career, but he will always probably be best remembered for his remarkable post season work with the New York Yankees.
The first Reggie Jackson appearance in Major League Baseball happened on June 9, 1967, for the Kansas City Athletics. Jackson stayed with the A’s for the next eight years, which included the teams relocation to Oakland. From there, he played one season for the Baltimore Orioles before finding a four year home with the New York Yankees, a team he helped lead to two World Series championships. He added those to the collection of the three he had helped win while playing for the A’s. Jackson then moved to the California Angels before finishing up his career back with the Athletics in 1987.
The right fielder rightly earned a spot among the greats enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993, which was his first year of eligibility. Throughout his career, Reggie Jackson appearances on the baseball diamond resulted in a variety of awards and accolades, including two Silver Slugger awards, the 1973 American League Most Valuable Player award, two World Series Most Valuable Player awards and the 1977 Babe Ruth award.
In his career since retirement, Reggie Jackson appearances have been made in support of his chain of car dealerships as well as in support of his love for sports memorabilia. He appeared back in Yankee pinstripes to throw out the very first pitch in the brand new Yankee Stadium in 2011.
